The starting point for the development of our sustainable rhabarberleder (rhubarb leather) was the search for an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional and environmentally harmful chrome tanning.
For several years we have been intensively researching the solution. We tested various genotypes of rhubarb for their suitability, optimised their cultivation requirements and developed an innovative tannin extract.
With this and without the addition of environmentally harmful chromium compounds, we can now produce a vegetable leather that meets the highest standards of quality, sustainability and versatility.
Our company is a member of the International Association of Natural Textiles e.V. (IVN). The IVN guideline "IVN-Naturleder" is one of the strictest guidelines for leather production worldwide. Taking into account these specifications, rhubarb leather is produced. In addition, rhubarb leather is produced according to the requirements of ISO 9001: 2015 and ISO 500001: 2011.
